There are different architecture and styles that an organization can adopt while building its MDM solution.Although having the same concept, services represent complex environments that have to be deployed and managed by a provider using individual tools.The tools are usually used manually or specifically integrated for a single service.We define a metamodel of a Cloud service called Co PS, which describes a service as a composition of software/hardware elements by using three sequential models, namely Component, Product and Service.We also present an architecture of a Cloud Management System (CMS) used for automatic service management, which transforms the models from an abstract representation to an actual deployment.Gartner defines Consolidated, Registry, Coexistence and Transaction hubs as the top implementation styles.

The hub-and-spoke architecture is a very common approach and provides a single consolidated repository of different master data entities.

An important role during MDM inception is that of solution architect – the one who should have the complete picture of the solution involving applications and technologies for profiling, data cleansing, consolidation, enrichment, de-duplication and synchronization which are key ingredients of the MDM recipe.

More than anything else, the solution architect will know the complete information system landscape, what integration mechanisms should be applied, and can estimate the hardware and infrastructure requirements based on the volume of data. Setting the right foundation and architecting the solution while keeping long-term goals in mind is crucial.
